Position Summary

The Structural Design Engineer performs design, calculations, analysis, and other engineering tasks related to engineering activities for product and project designs of tanks and tank related structures.


Position Description

Key Result Areas

  • Prepare, check, and revise design engineering and design process management for various AWWA D100-11 Welded Steel Tanks for Water Storage and related products and projects, Civil/foundation design, and reinforced concrete structure design; Design construction equipment, systems, and other temporary supports.
  • Direct and oversee detailing work; Review drawings; Stamp drawings.
  • Interpret customer specifications, design standards, and building codes; ensure design is in compliance with various standards and specifications.
  • Prepare, check, revise, and analyze requisitions, specifications, and datasheets; Prepare material requisitions and bid evaluations; Review vendor submittals; Improve existing SOPs and develop new SOPs.
  • Provide specialist support to ensure departmental adherence of standards of Quality Assurance/Quality Control, Safety, Construction Operations, Project Management, Procurement, and Project Controls.


Equipment Operation

  • Above ground storage tank design software including Etank and ITSdesign.
  • 2D and 3D drafting software including AutoCAD.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software including ANSYS.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Excel.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Civil Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a design engineer role.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing similar structures for construction.
  • Practical knowledge of the construction of storage tank projects.
  • Structural and mechanical drawing development and review.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, etc.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards and specifications: API, AWWA, ASME, AISC, ACI, IBC.
  • High level of proficiency in 2D drafting software, particularly AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in aboveground storage tank design software including Etank and ITSdesign.


Desired Qualifications

  • Design-Build project experience.
  • Practical knowledge of the fabrication of storage tank projects.
  • Practical knowledge of the fabrication and construction of pressure vessel projects.
  • Proficiency in pressure vessel design software including COMPRESS.
  • 3D drafting software including AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software including ANSYS.
