The position of Coatings Superintendent is responsible for the direction and management of field personnel for the performance of coatings construction works. The Coatings Superintendent should be experienced in all aspects of industrial blasting, painting, and coatings. The incumbent will demonstrate effective field supervision and direction abilities.


Key Result Areas:

  • Directs the day to day work activities of coatings construction personnel; Responsible to ensure project and organizational objectives are met safely, with a high standard of consistent quality, and profitably; Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to drawings, specifications, Company standards, procedures and quality expectations.
  • Understands and is knowledgeable of internal standards, policies, and procedures for execution of construction operations; Identifies areas for improvement, develops solutions, and implements changes.
  • Ensures field personnel are accountable for assigned tasks/projects; Works to ensure that sufficient plans and preparation have been made to allow quality work to be completed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Liaise with Safety Coordinator, Quality Coordinator, and office coordination supervision to ensure high quality work is produced in a safe, efficient manner; Interacts on-site as needed to ensure full compliance.
  • Models organizational values; Sets standard for behavior congruent with company ethics, morals, and expectations; Demonstrates character of integrity in day to day tasks; Supports company's strategic plan, goals and ideas communicating the core values of the Company through leadership and example.
  • Ensures safety policies, procedures, and applicable guidelines are properly followed; Enforce company expectations for all employees in regards to safety, quality, attendance, attitude, effort, employee relations and responsibility for self and others.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 7 years of similar experience of progressive responsibility in a supervisory role in a construction execution capacity.
  • Experience directing, training, and motivating field personnel
  • Knowledge and experience overseeing multiple jobs
  • Experience writing and documenting action plans, status reports and assessments
  • NACE Level 1 certification
  • Knowledgeable in QS-1, ISO 9001, QP 1, QP 2, AP 3
  • SSPC Member
  • QS 1 Certification preferred
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Valid Driver License
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred

  • The employee is regularly required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The employee must regularly apply 75 foot pounds of torque in the assembly, dismantling, erection, and installation of various types of structures, tank jig, scaffolding, etc.
  • Regularly swings a 10 pound hammer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Mental Requirements:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematic Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
  • There is machinery, moving equipment (cranes, bulldozers, and other moving equipment) and electrical hand tools at the jobsite.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
